# The Wearable Sweet Spot I've been auditioning the wearable ecosystem lately. Rings, bands, and the constellation of apps that bind them. Last month I made [[02.10.26 - RingConn and the Case for Dumb Hardware|the case for dumb hardware]], then immediately started sketching a smart pile of plumbing on top of it: correlation hooks, manual inputs, logs for alcohol and stress, bridges to ferry data between services that were never meant to meet. Here's what actually happened. Every insight came with a chore attached. Charge this one nightly. Open that app so it deigns to sync. Remember to log the thing. The only habits I was reliably forming were habits of maintenance, and the tracking started to feel like a second job with worse dashboards. I'm coming around to a simpler answer. The sweet spot is the device that asks nothing of me. Passive collection, sync I never touch, no rituals, no third party glue. Less intervention, fewer habits to keep, less of me in the loop. The wearable that wins is the one I forget I'm wearing.
